Burgers and fries get a lot of love at New York Pizza & Bar

Tan Vinh, Seattle Times Staff Reporter

Pizza is in the name at the New York Pizza & Bar in Lower Queen Anne, and there is lots of pizza on the menu, but the fries flow freely if you order one of their burgers.

For a place named New York Pizza & Bar, it sure shows a lot of affection to the burger. The humble burger gets souped up in every conceivable way: with a fried egg and bacon, with guacamole and bacon. And the half-pound burger comes with all the fries you can eat. You read that right. On a recent Sunday, the waitresses scurried from kitchen to the bar repeatedly, plopping down one bowl of fries after another. It would be like that for hours. It’s gimmicky, yes. But how does it taste? Pretty good. The burger — smoky, pink in center — was juicy. Read more

New York Pizza & Bar

Whenever a new pizza joint opens in Seattle the forces of justice turn their giant spotlight to the sky, just south of the Space Needle for the uninitiated, and Natasha and I rush to the scene of the crust for immediate situational analysis.

Such was the case last week when we were notified that the  New York Pizza and Bar had opened a Seattle location. The sneaky folks at NYPB have restaurants in Bellingham and Lynden, but our jurisdiction over pepperoni only extends to the city limits, so we were eagerly awaiting the new location at 500 Mercer st…

“The Bruschetta was robust and aromatic and the bread it rested on was crisp and fresh.”

Since our visit took place in the middle of the afternoon, we decided to just order a group of appetizers so we could sample as many different flavors as possible.  Lucky for us, NYPB has two happy hours every day of the week–one from 2-6, and another from 9-close. The Bruschetta was robust and aromatic and the bread it rested on was crisp and fresh. The calamari was my favorite dish of the day, as it often is when we dine, but this dish had a very sweet balsamic vinegar glaze that made it unlike any squid I had ever tasted. The grape tomatoes added the perfect counterpoint to the sweetness. Read more

Filled Up for Cheap.

via Yelp

Hands down, my favorite place in Bellingham. The Seattle location is good too, but this is way better. Livelier atmosphere, and better bartenders (they know their stuff.) I love the different themes of the weekdays and all the Happy Hour specials they offer. With two happy hours, it is really easy to catch one of them. They have happy hour specials for drinks as well as food and it’s easy to get filled up for cheap. My favorite is Martini Monday. Get the shakers, they seem pricey but you get a lot of drink for your money and if you like sweet drinks then you will love most of these. My favorite is the Pixie Stick. They are also very accommodating for large groups if you plan/call ahead. Read more

Regular Neighborhood Stop

via Yelp

This has become a regular neighborhood stop for me. The daily specials are great & the pizza is great. The Farmers Market is my favorite. But the staff is really what makes this place special, the service is always wonderful.  Lunch with a large group went seamlessly  and we all had a great lunch & what we ordered. Eating in the bar & catching a game is a great way to relax after work & bartenders are very entertaining. Twice daily happy hours & specials. Highly recommend! Read more
